The former MEC for Economic Development and Finance Dr Zweli Mkhize announced the Trade & Investment KwaZulu-Natal Board which had been approved by the provincial cabinet end September 2008. Mr. Peter Staude, who was appointed Chairperson, thanked the outgoing members and warmly welcomed the new ones. Significant in this announcement is that ten new board members have been appointed. The agency's main objective is to attract foreign and domestic investment into the province and plays a significant role in clinching lucrative investments to the province and creating export opportunities for local businesses. The appointments coincide with the agency's new corporate strategy aimed at radically increasing the flow of foreign direct investment into KwaZulu-Natal and the effective exporting of locally produced products in order to grow the provincial economy.

The new board which is made up of influential leaders from the business sector, local government and labour movement plays a crucial role in providing strategic leadership and ensuring compliance with corporate governance and TIKZN policies and procedures.
